Bury Football Club are pleased to confirm that the name for our new mascot is…Peeler!
Peeler was the name put forward by children from Christ Church Ainsworth Primary School, in a naming competition that all primary schools within the borough were invited to take part in.
Peeler maintains the link with Sir Robert Peel, from Bury, who introduced the first police officers – or, as they were called at the time, Peelers.
We would like to extend our thanks not only to Christ Church Ainsworth, but also to the other schools who entered the competition; Cams Lane, Greenmount Primary, Greenhill Primary and Old Hall Primary.
The vote was extremely close, with just one vote separating the top two votes. Out of 1,155 votes, Peeler received 387 votes, with Giggles receiving 386 votes. Officer Irwell got 275 votes with Tommy the Town Hound getting 106 votes.
Each of these schools will receive complimentary match tickets to the opening home game of the season against Yeovil Town on Saturday 4th August.
