Fans' Friday - Armando Diaz

2 March 2018

This week on Fans' Friday, we've spoken to Armando Diaz. Armando is a supporter from across the pond and gave us his views on life as a Shaker...

Where do you support the Shakers from?

I currently reside in the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale, Florida however I am originally from Miami. All my life I have lived in South Florida.

What made you support Bury?

What made me support Bury? How much time do you have!?!?! Ha! For the sake of space and time I will keep my version short. A few years ago, before Mr. Day purchased the club, a share issue was used to raise some much-needed funds for the club. I purchased a few shares and began following Bury FC. In late 2013, I made the trek across the Atlantic to Lancashire to watch my first Bury FC match. I came over with no expectations. What I encountered were friends for life. John Raftery and Jaime Hipwell have been nothing short of amazing in terms of making visitors such as myself welcome at the club.

Have you ever been to watch Bury?

I have attended three matches. The first two were against Wimbledon and Hartlepool in November of 2013 when Ronnie Jepson was Caretaker Manager and Bury were in League Two and last year I attended the away match against Millwall. I am proud to boast while in attendance, Bury have always kept a clean sheet. If the technical staff needs to shore up the defensive unit, I am their man. Just plop me in the stands and I'll take care of the rest! :-)

Who is your favourite Bury player of all time?

My favorite Bury player of all time is Daniel Nardiello. On my first trip, "Nards" was kind enough to sign a scarf which made its way to a Manchester United supporter who was serving in the United States Army based in Afghanistan. Daniel had scored the only goal in a match against Hartlepool and before the BBC could interview him, Gordon Sorfleet (my eternal thanks to him) was able to get Daniel to come over for a quick moment.

How do you keep up to date with what’s going on at the Club?

John Raftery administers a WhatsApp group which keeps Bury FC supporters from all over the world connected to one another. Its a wonderful place for banter and information concerning the club. I also have an iFollow subscription thus I can watch or listen to matches.

What are your thoughts on the season so far?

This season has been a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for mid table security but instead the club finds itself in a relegation dogfight once again. There are still plenty of matches remaining so I have not lost hope the squad can find a way to stay in League One.

Is there anything you would like to add about your time supporting Bury?

I feel it’s important for supporters and potential supporters to know Bury is a club filled with good, kind-hearted individuals who feel passionate about the club and are willing to share their generosity and hospitality with any and all. It’s what has kept me returning to the club as often as I can. Now that I have a son I hope to share Gigg Lane with him and hopefully pass my love for the club onto him.
