As we announced last week, the Bury U11’s took part in the International City Cup at the Etihad campus this weekend.
They earnt their place at the prestigious competition and saw them pit their wits against some of the world’s best teams.
The first game saw defeat to Southampton, but that was quickly forgotten about as they immediately bounced back to beat Benfica 2-1. The remaining games of the group stage saw draws against Chelsea, Feyenoord, FC Girona, Manchester City and Newcastle United.
They were knocked out of the competition in the quarter-finals with a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Hosts Manchester City were the eventual winners, beating FC Girona on penalties in the Final.
Lead Foundation Phase Coach, Graham Hastings, had confidence in the team’s ability to compete at the tournament – “I’m very proud of the way the lads represented Bury. We knew we would compete but I think we surprised a few people along the way”.
All the players did Bury FC proud, and everyone at the Club would like to congratulate them all for qualifying for the tournament and the way they represented us over the weekend!
