Following a successful season, the Bury Football Club Under 11’s have successfully qualified to take part in a prestigious tournament at the Manchester City Football Academy.
The International City Cup is set to take place on the 5th and 6th May and Bury will be well represented as the team rub shoulders with Feyenoord, Chelsea, FC Girona, Southampton, Benfica, Newcastle United and hosts Manchester City.
A qualification tournament – which included teams from Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers – saw the Shakers come out on top to earn their place.
Graham Hastings, Lead Foundation Phase Coach at Bury, was proud of the team’s accomplishments: “The team have earnt their spot in this fantastic competition due to their success over the last season. They have competed with all the teams they’ve come up against, and more importantly have shown a terrific attitude throughout. To qualify for a tournament like this shows that people are sitting up and taking notice of our development teams which bodes very well for the future”.
As the tournament is a single-league format, the Shakers will pit their skills against all 7 opponents over the course of the weekend. Their first 6 games will take place on the Saturday, with the final group game and subsequent knock-out matches taking place on the Sunday.
Everyone at Bury Football Club would like to congratulate our Under 11’s for a fantastic season and wish them all the best at the tournament!
