Football, Friends and Fun: Community League Set to Shine

7 November 2018

Last week we held an initial open evening with our ‘Bury the Flab’ initiative, designed for overweight males. Following consultation between the club and the Community Trust, we are now relabelling this as the ‘Community League.’

Bury FC Business Development Director, Matt Hanson explained: “We had a great turn out last week at Play Football but also a lot of interest from people who have other challenges.

"One gentleman contacted me as he has been struggling with mental illness and believes being part of our group would benefit him. Another had moved to the area and wanted to meet new people, so we believe it’s something that is more community-based.”

Community Director, Mike Morris commented: “This is very much aimed to the 30-50 something audience, but we welcome all. It’s designed to create fun, friendship and competition, but the emphasis is fun. If you are a world beater, then this is not for you, but if you want to interact with like-minded people, then we want to see you.

"The idea is that after this session we will have enough participants to start a small league and players will be allocated squads.”

The next session will take place on Wednesday 7th November at 8 pm. It will cost £5 per person, and you will need shin pads and suitable footwear for a 4G pitch.
