Historically, the 2nd November has been a busy day for the Shakers with a total of 25 games played on this day, with the first game taking place way back in 1889 and a home friendly with Burnley Union Star. The Burnley based outfit would go out of business the following season mid-way through the Lancashire League campaign. This game turned into a successful outing with a 5-3 victory in front of 1,000 supporters with the Bury goals coming from Bourn, Conway, Humphreys, Ross, and Swinton.
The 1895 season brought West Bromwich Albion to Gigg Lane for a Division One fixture. A crowd of 6,000 supporters watched on as the Shakers won the game 3-0 thanks to goals from Joe Henderson, Jack Plant, and an own goal from Williams.
A 1918 North West War League game at Blackburn Rovers brought further success for the Shakers with a 1-0 victory with the only goal of the game coming from Crossley, a guest player. The crowd for this game is unknown.
A 1927 Lancashire Cup third round tie against Manchester United at Gigg Lane, saw 3,039 supporters watch as Bury ran out 3-0 winners. Billy Stage was amongst the goals scoring one, whilst the other two goals came from Arthur Gale.
Back into the War League of 1940; Everton arrived at Gigg Lane where 2,000 supporters watched as Bury ran out 2-0 winners with the goals coming from Burdett (Guest Player) and George Davies.
The Shakers would not win another game on this day until the 2002/03 season when Leyton Orient hosted the Shakers at Brisbane Road for a Division Three (Tier 4) game. 4,234 supporters watched as the Shakers ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Andy Preece and Terry Dunfield.
The last recorded game on this day took place in 2013 when Torquay United visited Gigg Lane for a League Two clash. Nathan Cameron (pictured at the top of the page) scored the only Bury goal on the day in a 3-1 defeat.
