On This Day...6th November

6 November 2018

The 6th November is a busy day for the Shakers, with 29 games played on this day throughout the club's history. The first of which took place in 1886 and a home friendly game with the Unitarians. Bury won the game 4-3 with the goals coming from Malpass, Douglas, Pollock and Stark.

The first Football League game took place in 1894, the clubs first season as a League club and an away trip to Rotherham Town. 3,000 supporters watched as the Shakers won the game with the odd goal in five and a 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Jack Plant and a brace from Barney Lee.

Bury would not win again on this date until 1920, when Bristol City visited Gigg Lane for a Division Two game. The game attracted a crowd of approx. 15,000, who watched two goals from Norman Bullock win the game 2-0.

1929 brought Blackpool to Gigg Lane for a Lancashire Cup 3rd Round game. Norman Bullock, Jim Davin and John Smith all found the back of the net in a Shakers' 3-2 victory in front of 3,768 supporters.

1947 saw Blackburn Rovers play at Gigg Lane, again in the Lancashire Cup. Eddie Quigley and Don Carter were both on target in a 2-1 victory. Bury would go on to be defeated in the final against Liverpool.

1954 saw the Shakers heading south for a game at Plymouth's Home Park, where 15,099 supporters watched the Shakers record a 4-2 victory. Walter Kelly (pictured in the main image at the top of the page) and Stan Pearson both scoring two goals.

Chester City hosted the Shakers in 1982 for a Division Four game at Sealand Road. Just 2,023 supporters were on hand to see Bury claim the points in a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Stuart Parker.

Chesterfield were the visitors to Gigg Lane in 1993 for a Division Three (tier four) game. Just over 2,000 supporters were on hand to see Bury win the game 2-1 thanks to two goals from Mark Carter.

This time of the year usually brings the First Round of the FA Cup and Exeter City were the visitors in 2010. Efe Sodje and Tom Lees scored the goals that won the game for the Shakers.

The last recorded game on this day was in 2012 when the Shakers won 2-1 at Oldham Athletic. A James Tarkowski own goal followed by a Steven Schumacher penalty won the game for the Shakers.
