National Poetry Day

4 October 2018

Today is National Poetry Day! To celebrate this, our coaches have been out in local schools delivering poetry sessions as part of our Premier League Primary Starts programme.

Lewis Marno went to Old Hall Primary School to deliver a PSHE session on values and read out a poem he wrote about his own values, inspiring the children to write their own poem about their own personal values. This session both helped to bring alive poetry for the children in this class, while also helping develop the children's understanding of core values.

National Poetry Day is a British campaign to promote poetry, including public performances. National Poetry Day was founded in 1994 by William Sieghart. Since its inception, it has engaged millions of people across the country with live events, classroom activities and broadcasts. National Poetry Day is co-ordinated by the charity Forward Arts Foundation, whose mission is to celebrate excellence in poetry and increase its audience.

Today, events, readings and performances will take place across the UK, celebrating this year's theme of 'Change'. Keep your eyes peeled for things happening near to you!
