A short trip to West Manchester FC was the Shakers' first game on 8th October 1887 for a friendly game. Bury won the game 2-0 with just 250 supporters attending, with Billy Richardson scoring both Bury goals.
The Shakers' first Football League game took place in 1898 with a home game against Sheffield United. 8,000 supporters watched as the Blades claimed the points with a 3-1 win, with Bury’s goal coming from John Evans.
1921 brought Port Vale to BL9 for a Second Division game. It turned into a successful afternoon for Bury with a 5-2 victory. Jimmy Trotter claimed four goals with the fifth coming from Ralph Burkinshaw.
1949 saw Bury on the road at Coventry City and a visit to Highfield Road. George Hazlett (pictured above) and Harrold Bodle were on target for the Shakers and claimed a 2-1 win in front of 18,383 supporters.
A home game with FC Maccabi in 1957 was dubbed a Floodlit Friendly, though it wasn’t as friendly for the visitors after a 7-0 defeat to the Shakers. 5,499 supporters attended the game with Bill Ritchie (2), Jimmy Reid, Eddie Robertson x 2 (1 pen), John Parker and Gordon Atherton (pictured below) all finding the back of the net.
A 1962 League Cup 2nd Round replay at Lincoln City brought success for the Shakers. Following a 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane, the game went back to Sincil Bank where Bill Calder and two goals from George Jones saw Bury progress to the 3rd round for a tie with Sheffield United. Bury would go onto reach the semi-final that season.
1969 saw Bury on the road with a trip to Craven Cottage and a Division Three game with Fulham. 11,784 supporters watched as Bury stormed to a 4-2 victory thanks to goals form Ian Towers (2), George Jones and Brian Grundy.
1994 saw Bury visiting Feethams for a Division Three (Tier 4) game with hosts Darlington. Mark Carter and David Pugh were both on target as Bury recorded a 2-0 win in a season that saw them reach the Play-Off Final at Wembley.
Exeter City were the visitors for a League One fixture on 08 October 2011. A 2-0 victory followed thanks to Andy Bishop and a Matt Oakley own goal.
The last recorded game took place in 2016 and an away trip to Peterborough United. A Hayden White 2nd minute own goal was Bury’s only consolation in a 3-1 defeat.
