Over the club's long history, we have played 26 games on 25th October, starting with a Lancashire League fixture away at Fleetwood Rangers in 1890. It certainly proved to be a good day at the Seaside for the Shakers with a 6-1 victory in front of a thousand supporters, with the goals coming from Conway x 2, Bourn, Fielding, Jones and Plant.
A 1913 visit from Bristol City, for a Division Two game, attracted a crowd of 12,800 supporters as Bury ran out 3-1 winners. Captain Billy Peake collected all three of the Bury goals.
1919 saw North East giants South Shields arrive at Gigg Lane for a Division Two clash. 7,000 fans flocked into Gigg Lane to witness a 2-1 Bury victory thanks to goals from Ted Rodgerson and Bill Ritchie.
1924 brought Notts County to Bury for a Division One game and a crowd of 17,773. Wally Amos and John Ball were both on target as the Shakers claimed a 2-1 victory in a season where they would finish fifth in the top tier, a finish that nowadays would bring European football.
1930 saw Preston North End make the short trip to Gigg Lane for a Division Two game where 17,513 supporters watched as Bury ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Robert Pugh, Dave Robbie and John R Smith.
A 1941 North War League First Division game with Burnley brought just 1,500 supporters to Gigg Lane for a game with Burnley. Two goals from George Davies plus a goal from Jimmy Gemmell brought a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw.
1950 saw Lancashire Cup action at Anfield with a game against Liverpool. George Hazlett, Harold Bodle plus two goals from Dave Massart would secure a 4-1 victory for Bury. The Shakers would go on to reach the Final in this season's competition, losing out to the odd goal in three against Manchester United.
The Liverpool game would be repeated five years later, though this time it took place at Gigg Lane and would take a replay to settle the tie. A Peter Tilley brace and Doug Clarke would score the goals in a 3-3 draw, with Liverpool winning the replay.
Accrington Stanley would make a short journey to Gigg Lane in 1958 for a Division Three game where 12,635 supporters watched as Bury ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Tom Neill and two from Don Watson.
In 1969, a Third Division game with Barrow attracted only 3,669 supporters and a 4-0 victory. Two goals from George Jones, plus strikes from Ian Towers and Roy Parnell would secure the points for the Shakers.
Unfortunately, the Shakers made the headlines on 25th October 1983 when they faced West Ham United in the League Cup at Upton Park. The Second Round 2nd Leg tie came after a narrow defeat in the First Leg at Gigg Lane with Craig Madden scoring the Bury goal in a 2-1 defeat. West Ham won the second game by scoring TEN goals to Bury's none with 10,896 supporters watching.
In 2003, the Shakers visited the newly opened Darlington Arena for a League Two game with Darlington. With 3,516 supporters inside the vast arena, Craig Liddle put the home side ahead on four minutes, but on 35 minutes – Gareth Seddon (pictured at the top of the page) wrote himself into the Shakers history books when he scored the club's 6,000th league goal. Lee Connell and Harpal Singh would go on to score further goals to record a 3-1 win for the Shakers.
The last recorded game on this day took place in 2014 when the Shakers played Southend United at Roots Hall. Craig Jones scored the only Bury goal in a 1-1 draw with 5,174 supporters attending.
