A friendly game with Padiham kicks off the 29th October for the Shakers. The game was played at Gigg Lane in 1887 and attracted just 1,000 supporters, who saw the Shakers collect a 3-1 victory thanks to a brace of goals from Douglas and a third goal from Malpass.
1892 brought Stockport County to Gigg Lane. As the Shakers were two years away from becoming a Football League side, the club had to progress through qualifying rounds of the FA Cup. This second round qualifying game brought success for Bury with a resounding 8-1 victory in front of 2,792 supporters with the goals coming as follows; George Ross x 3, George Bourn x 2, Jack Plant, Ian Williamson and a Gaskell own goal.
1904 brought Manchester City to Bury for a Division One game, where 18,000 supporters were to witness a six-goal thriller, though this game did not go Bury's way as they suffered a 4-2 defeat. Both Bury goals came from Charlie Sagar (one from the penalty spot).
Coventry City hosted the Shakers at Highfield Road in 1921 for a Division Two game. 18,000 supporters watched as the Shakers claimed two points thanks to a 2-1 win with Dave Robbie scoring both Bury goals.
6,878 fans were at Gigg Lane in 1932 for a Division Two game with Oldham Athletic. Dave Robbie scored two goals again for Bury, along with Arthur Eggleston – but the three goals were not enough to secure a victory as the game finished 3-3.
West Ham United visited Gigg Lane in 1949 and attracted 16,399 supporters. The majority of whom left the Stadium extremely happy following a Bury 3-1 win. George Hazlett (pictured below), Dave Massart (pictured at the top of the page) and Tommy Daniel with the Bury goals.
With the club now having floodlights installed at Gigg Lane, the series of Floodlit Friendlies continued with foreign opponents appearing in Bury in 1957. SK Budowlani Opole arrived from Poland, but just 1,353 supporters ventured to Gigg Lane for this evening clash. Bury won the game 3-0 with goals from Tom Neill, Jim Lovie and Bobby Conroy.
Derby County were the visitors in 1966 for a Division Two game. 6,436 fans watched as the game finished 2-2, with the Bury goals coming from a Jack Maltby penalty and Brian Turner.
1994 saw Bury visit Walsall for a Division Three game. David Pugh scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to hand all three points to the Shakers.
The last recorded game on this day took place in 2016 and an away game at Sixfields Stadium, where Northampton Town claimed a narrow 3-2 victory
