27 games were played on this day, the first of which took place in 1886 and a Lancashire Cup game with Bohemians. A goal from Mitchell, plus a second unknown goal scorer won the game 2-0 for the Shakers.
1897 brought Football League action and a First Division clash with the mighty West Bromwich Albion. Bury came out on top with a 3-2 win thanks to goals from Harry Millar, and two from James Settle in front of 6,000 supporters.
A 1909 First Division clash with Middlesbrough at Gigg Lane saw 10,000 supporters watching on, as goals from Chris Duffy and Andy Smith claimed a 2-1 victory for the Shakers.
1937 saw Bury on the road with a long away trip to Luton Town. George Bargh was on target to score the only goal of the game and the Shakers' first away win of the season. 18,000 supporters were on-hand to witness the game.
Another away trip came in 1948, this time to Leicester City though the result was not as positive, as the Foxes won the Second Division clash with the odd goal in five. 27,852 supporters were at the game to see two consolation goals from Harry Whitworth and Eddie Kilshaw.
The 1964/65 season saw Bury in the Second Division and a home tie with Bolton Wanderers attracted 23,321 supporters to Gigg Lane as goals from Viv Alston and Ray Parry secured a 2-1 victory.
The following season saw Rotherham United visit Bury, again in the Second Division. Only 7,105 supporters were on-hand to witness the Shakers win 6-1. Harry Bird got his name on the scoresheet but, and rightly so, the plaudits should go to Ray Pointer after he collected a massive five goals during the game. A feat that has only been matched once when Eddie Quigley scored five against Millwall in 1946.
1973 saw Darlington visit Gigg Lane for a Division Four game. 4,501 supporters watched as Bury hit five goals with Brian Williams scoring twice, along with goals from Derek Spence (penalty), Billy Rudd and George Hamstead.
The last recorded game on this day took place in the Shakers' 2010/11 promotion season, when Rotherham United visited the JD Stadium. Ryan Lowe (pictured above) gave the Shakers a 41st minute lead, only for Adam Le Fondre to equalise for the Millers some four minutes into the second half.
