21st September begins with a 6-1 victory for the Shakers. This game was the Shakers’ second match in the newly-formed Lancashire League game against Oswaldtwistle Rovers at Gigg Lane in 1889. Goals were courtesy of a hat-trick for George Bourn, plus strikes from Conway, Fielding and Steele with 2,000 supporters watching.
Jack Plant was on the scoresheet again, this time in 1895. With the Shakers now playing in the highest league in the country, Sheffield United arrived at Gigg Lane. A crowd of 4,248 watched as Plant scored the only goal of the game to secure the clubs very first win in the First Division.
Bury would not win a game on this day until 1935 when Hull City came to visit Gigg Lane. A Second Division game with 7,244 supporters watching as a Dave Jones goal, plus two from Ernie Matthews secured a 3-1 victory.
The 1946/47 season was the first full season following the end of the Second World War, and Plymouth Argyle made the long trip to BL9 for a Second Division game. A Reg Halton penalty plus two goals from Dave Jones helped the Shakers along to a 3-3 draw. 14,583 supporters watched the game.
Versatile right half-back Davey Jones joined Bury on a free transfer from Worksop Town in 1934, and the Shakers were so pleased with the deal and the player, that they made a £150 donation to the Worksop club.
An excellent utility player, capable of filling any position, he was also a talented cricketer, appearing in 24 matches for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club as a middle order right-handed batsman between 1935 and 1939. He scored 594 runs at an average of 18 with a highest score of 60.
After the War, he played for Heywood Cricket Club in the Central Lancashire League, and made 267 appearances for Bury, scoring 13 goals during his time with the Shakers. Davey Jones died in Scarborough in July 1998, aged 84.
A Division Three (North) game with Barrow in 1957 saw a crowd of 13,432 watching as Bury ran out rampant winners with a 4-1 win. Two goals from Parker plus goals from Derbyshire and Reid won the game for Bury.

1965 brought Huddersfield Town to Gigg Lane in the second round of the League Cup. Just 5,629 supporters were in attendance to see the Shakers knocked out of the cup with a 2-0 defeat.
In 1974, Huddersfield Town game to Gigg Lane in a Third Division fixture. Goals from Andy Rowland, George Buchan and an own goal from Hutt saw Bury victorious with a 3-0 win.
Northampton Town v Bury on 21st September 1982, a Fourth Division game, brought both points back up the M1 for the Shakers thanks to goals from Stevie Johnson, Franny Firth and Craig Madden.
The last recorded game on this date took place in 2013, with Southend United visiting Gigg Lane. On loan striker Anton Forrester scored a 90th minute equaliser for Bury to take a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
