Player's Playlist: Morecambe - Dom Telford

3 September 2018

For those who didn't buy a programme on Saturday, here's Dom Telford's Player's Playlist interview which he did for the programme, where he discusses the reason behind his ten song choices...

Dom, can you tell us a bit about your song choices today?

I like a good variety with my music. I have different genres for different moods I’m in, but on a game day I like listening to upbeat stuff to get me up for it, so hopefully, the lads do too!

There's a bit of a dance feel to these tracks, is that the genre you find yourself listening to most?

To be honest with you I like listening to anything. I love the upbeat stuff on a match day, but a normal day I like older stuff such as early 2000’s, R&B to Luther Vandross.

Your initiation song went down well with the lads and on social media. Do you prefer a good sing-along or do you prefer to show your moves on the dance floor?

(Laughs) I haven’t got any moves, but I’ll give it a go! As long as people are happy with the music I’m happy.

What was the first CD you ever bought?

I think the first CD I bought was Skepta - Greatest Hits.

What's the best concert you've been to, and why?

I went to see Drake in Manchester, that was unreal! He played all the songs that I’ve been listening to daily for 5/6 years, so it was surreal listening to it live.

Who/what are you listening to at the moment?

I’m listening to a lot of English Grime/Rap at the minute. I like the wordplay in the songs.

Singer or band that you think the world should love as much as you do?

I’d say Bugzy Malone. I’ve seen him a couple of times, and he tells a story in every song. He’s massively on the up at the minute, and from Manchester, so it’s good seeing a local artist doing well.

Your most hated music genre?

Rock! I’m not a fan at all; it’s the only genre I wouldn’t listen to! So, basically, every song that Danny Mayor had on at the last home game; the rest of the lads weren’t impressed either.

If you were in a band would you want to be the lead singer or play an instrument, and why?

I’d love to play the piano; I think I’ll learn one day. I find it soothing. I like watching videos of people playing old school R&B on the piano; they’re very talented.

The song that best describes your life?

That’s Life - Frank Sinatra. I have grown up listening to it with my Grandad. He loves Sinatra, so he’s got a big place in my heart.

Danny Mayor said he thought his playlist would be the best and yours would be the worst, was he right?

He was absolutely wrong! His playlist had two songs on that I have on when I’m going to sleep, not on a match day! The other eight songs were terrible. To be honest, I don’t think anyone will have a worse playlist than Danny, it was terrible!
