On This Day - 11th February

Bury have played a total of twenty-four games on 11 February, winning seven, drawing five and losing the remaining twelve. Of those twenty-four games, the following five games stand out:

The First League Game: Bury made the short trip to Everton’s Goodison Park for a Division One game with the Merseyside outfit.  15,000 supporters were at the match as the Shakers fell to a 2-0 defeat. 

Highest Scoring: A 1933 home game with West Ham United attracted a crowd of 7,553 fans to watch the Shakers take on the Hammers in this Division Two game.  The game produced seven goals, with six of them coming from Bury thanks to goals from Dave Robbie (2), Billy Chalmers (2), Les Vernon and Wally Amos. 

Highest Attendance: 18,363 supporters packed into Bristol City’s Ashton Gate for a 1966 Division Two game with the Shakers.  Bristol won the game 2-1 with the Bury goal coming from Jack Maltby.

Neil Ramsbottom, Brian Turner, Vinnie Leech, Gordon Atherton, Eddie Colquhoun, Ray Parry, Barry Lowes, Colin Bell (pictured at the top of the page), Jack Maltby, Jimmy Kerr and Tommy Claxton. 

Best Home Win: The game with West Ham was the highest home win, with an 1888 Friendly game with West Manchester coming in a close second with a 5-0 victory.  Just 1,000 supporters watched on as George Ross hit a hat trick with a further two goals coming from Ian Pollock. 

The Last:  Swindon Town visited Gigg Lane on 11 February 2017 for a League One clash with the Shakers. 2,713 supporters were in attendance to see James Vaughan convert a 37th minute penalty to win the game 1-0.
