We take a look at what has happened on this day in our history...

Bury have played a total of 18 games on 8th January, winning just four, drawing four and losing ten. Of those 18 games, the following five stand out:


The First League Game

The first League game came in 1910, when Manchester United visited Gigg Lane for a Division One tie. The game attracted a crowd of 15,000, though the game finished 1-1 with the Bury goal coming from Billy Hibbert.


Highest Scoring

A 1946 FA Cup Third Round second leg tie at Rochdale brought six goals at Spotland. Bury won the game 4-2 with 8,712 supporters. The first leg game at Gigg Lane also brought six goals with a 3-3 draw. The Bury goals in the second leg came from George Davies, David Jones, Jack Moss and Ian Tompkin.


Highest Attendance

22,000 supporters were at Swansea's Vetch Field to see the Shakers lose 3-0 in the FA Cup 1st Round on 8 January 1921.


Heaviest Defeat

An FA Cup Third Round tie at Swansea Town in 1927 brought a 4-1 defeat for Bury in front of 21,843 supporters, with the Bury goal coming from Wally Amos.


The Last

The Shakers made the short trip to Accrington Stanley on 8th January 2011 for a League Two game. 2,481 supporters watched as a solitary goal from Joe Jacobson won the game for Accrington with the following representing the Shakers:
