Date of birth
Huddersfield born Joe began his career with his home town club in 2006. A product of the Huddersfield youth system, Joe made his First team debut in November 2006 and went on to make 68 appearances for the Terriers before being released at the end of the 2009-10 season.
Joe originally joined Bury in June 2010 and achieved promotion to League One in his first year with the club. He was an instrumental part of a successful Bury side which saw him sign a new deal before his first year at Gigg Lane had finished. As a result of his successful season, Joe was named in the League Two “PFA Team of the Year”. He made 145 appearances for the Shakers, scoring five goals, before he was released by the club at the end of the 2012-13 season, with the club in financial meltdown.
Joe signed for Rotherham United, with whom he had enjoyed a loan spell prior to leaving Bury. He spent a further two seasons in Yorkshire, where he collected his second promotion winning medal as Rotherham won promotion to the Championship via the 2014 Play-off final. Joe left Rotherham, in January 2015, to join Oxford United. His spell with the U’s brought another promotion winners medal to add to his collection, as well as a further 105 appearances to add to his career tally. 27-year-old Joe re-joined the Shakers, in June 2017, after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, with the option for a third year.
