Alex Bruce

The son of current Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, Alex has been the subject of speculation all summer.  Clubs such as Aston Villa, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers has all shown interest in the 32-year-old over the summer, but it was with the Shakers that he started his 2017/18 season.  He made his debut for the club, and scored Bury’s only goal of the game, at Wigan Athletic in Mid-August.

Norwich born Alex has played for a number of clubs, mostly at Championship and Premier League level, including Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Ipswich Town, Leeds United and most recently Hull City.. Alex has also represented both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland at international level, and was allowed to switch nationality under FIFA’s eligibility rules as his appearances for the Republic of Ireland had all come in friendly games.

Vastly experienced, Alex can play in defence or as a defensive midfielder. An integral part of the Hull City team that won promotion to the Premier League, he found himself without a club as pre-season came and went, but his sudden appearance in a Bury short surprised many. Alex initially signed on Non-Contract terms as cover for the injured Stephen Dawson, but Lee Clark hopes to turn that deal into something more permanent.
